“Naust”

Traditional boathouses have lined the coast of Northern Norway for generations. Built to withstand the harsh Arctic climate, they served as practical shelters for boats, fishing gear, and the everyday work that shaped life along the coast.

Growing up in Northern Norway has given me a deep appreciation for these places and the stories they hold. Their simple architecture, weathered timber, and quiet presence continue to inspire my work.

Naust celebrates the timeless character of these familiar structures. Stripped down to their essential forms and bold colours, the artwork explores the balance between function, identity, and place. More than buildings, the boathouses stand as enduring symbols of coastal culture and the communities that have lived alongside the sea for generations.
